a couple weeks ago i blogged about walking through port meadow (440 acres of common land on the outskirts of oxford that local farmers graze their cows and horses on). port meadow is a public park, and lots of people go jogging or walk their dogs there. i didn't take any pictures the first time - but i went back this afternoon and have pictures to share!
claire (age 26) with a cow. you wouldn't believe how many self-portraits i took before i got one where (a) i didn't look ridiculous, and (b) i had actually managed to capture my whole face and the whole face of a cow. this one has taken some time away from eating grass to look at the camera, which i appreciate.
hanging out with the cows again.
it's hard to see in this photo, but off in the distance you'll see a line of probably a hundred cows and horses grazing and enjoying the sun.
i made friends with a new horse! this one is a mini horse - he only came up to my waist! he wandered over to graze near me and i petted him a little. we are friends now. look at his short legs!
normal-sized horses (bor-ing).
about half an hour elapsed between the first photo in this post (sunny skies! hooray!) and this photo, which was followed quickly by rain. "sunny intervals" is what the BBC predicts almost daily for the weather in oxford, but what that really means is "it can and will rain at any time. aren't you glad you bought a new rain jacket after you left your old one on a train in switzerland?"
i'm back in my dorm now, keeping track of the sotomayor confirmation hearings (how did people survive without live streaming video on msnbc.com?) and reading some harry potter. happy monday, all!

Claire, I wish you had met this horse. He is even shorter than your friend! (I hope the link works...if not, copy and paste).

Fantastic pictures of cows and horses. However, keep in mind that we Logsdons are a bit sensitive about people making fun of short legs.
I enjoy the cow pictures :)
However - the 2nd picture featuring you + cow = slightly scary...You might want to reconsider posting that for the world to see ;) hahahahahahaha. Mind, you, its 230AM here and Jack D and I have been friends this evening.
At some point, give us the history of town commons. Presumably we're going back to some practices of feudal England.
