the plan, part 1:
i depart ATL on june 10, have a layover in london, and arrive in budapest on june 11, where i meet up with jenny (who will have just spent a couple days in prague). for those of you who don't know, jenny is a friend of mine from duke - we met on the first day of the pre-orientation program BUILD, both majored in history, and have been friends ever since. we now are both teachers and deans at holy innocents' episcopal school. hooray jenny!
over the next two weeks we'll be in budapest, salzburg (austria), munich, interlaken (switzerland), and geneva.
we both fly out of geneva on june 24 - jenny back to atlanta and me to london. (note: my flight from geneva to london cost $16 + $47 in taxes and fees. how do the taxes and fees cost more than the flight?!)
i'll spend a couple days getting from london to oxford (via bath) - i need to be in oxford on june 28 to start my job. i'll be working as a program dean for a summer program for american high school students called oxbridge. if you're interested in learning more about it, their website is here: http://www.oxbridgeprograms.com/oxford_tradition/index.php (you'll have to cut and paste into the address bar...anyone know how to make this a working link?)
i'll be in oxford until august 3, and i'll spend another day or so getting back to london.
i depart london for atlanta on august 5.
the plan, part 2:
travel light.
this means i'm bringing a carry on suitcase, a bookbag, and a purse. this means i won't be super pretty during this trip, and i'll be wearing the same week's worth of clothing every week for eight weeks. this isn't ideal in my mind, but i want to be able to travel quickly and easily and without a lot of worries.
the plan, part 3:
jenny and i will stay in hostels and eat relatively cheaply. i will be learning the hungarian, german, swiss, and british english words for meat, and then avoiding those words on menus. good luck to me. we think all our hostels will have internet access, but if they don't i'll find an internet cafe and bumble my way through that.
your job:
1. read the blog if you're interested in doing so.
2. write comments or send me emails so i can keep up with you! i know i'll miss each of you at some point (or every point), and it will mean a lot to me to be able to keep in touch even if it's too expensive to call.
additionally, i know i will miss the following things, so please enjoy them for me:
homegrown corn and tomatoes
braves games
beers on patios with friends
the new season of "army wives" on lifetime (yes, i am trashy)
long phone conversations with friends about nothing in particular
obsessively following the sotomayor confirmation process
next post when we've arrived in budapest!

...um...some Brit Victorian. I don't know. But I'm betting that Mark does. A hundred.
Didn't realize you're summering over. Will be following you with great interest.
Thanks. Have a blast.
Woo - good luck in Budapest. I found it a less pleasant city to travel around than I was hoping for. I also lost my camera there last summer, but it eventually came back to me 6 months and 10,000 miles later. And definitely go to a bath house one night!
Claaaaaiiiiirrrree! You are going to have the best time! I will be thinking about you always and can't wait to read up on your adventures. You will be missed - but glad I'll get to live vicariously through you over the next few months :)
