i'm in london, and let me tell you, the immigration officer at heathrow airport interrogated me about why i was coming into this country. it was a little scary. again: reason #441 why london and budapest are different cities. i "passed," though, and i'm here!
jenny and i said goodbye in the geneva airport as she headed into the "french sector," where all flights to france depart from, and i headed into the rest of the airport. jenny has a layover in paris before getting home to atlanta tonight. my flight to london was uneventful, and the lady next to me did NOT steal my candy bar like that kid did when i flew into budapest. whew. i found my way to my hostel pretty easily, and then went out exploring. i'm staying near the corner of great portland street and new cavendish street, for those interested in google mapping. it's a GREAT location - walking distance to museums, the west end (the theater district), and cute shopping places and restaurants. walking distance is important because a single ride on the underground is 4 pounds, and with the exchange rate being 1 pound to 1.62 dollars, that is pretttttty expensive. i will be doing a lot of walking while i'm here, and i'm just fine with that - the weather is great. i bought a ticket to "chicago" for tonight at the tkts (discount tickets) booth, which i'm really excited about seeing. i saw the movie that came out several years ago, but have never seen the show. and boys and girls, it appears that i will have the good fortune to see none other than jerry springer in the show - i have no idea which part he will play, but he's here for a 6 week run. haha...i will report back on how that goes and whether jerry springer can carry a tune.
it's really nice to be back in a country that speaks english, though. kind of a relief, to be quite honest. i loved traveling around europe and being out of my comfort zone, but it does wear on you. hooray for all the signs being in english!

OK - I looked up the boxer and the guy I was thinking about was Jack Johnson (see Wiki). He was not stripped of his title; instead, he was indicted for violations of the Mann Act (interstate transportation of prostitutes). I thought Ali was too obvious and answer. Note to self: go with the obvious when in doubt.
I continue to be jealous of your travels. Keep us posted.
Yeah, I thought about Jack Johnson myself, but I couldn't remember if he was Jack Johnson or John Jackson, maybe Joe Jackson...and so on until I had a panick attack and went with Ali.
I could have guessed Munich for best beer, but I would have failed on food. Also I don't associate Munich with pizza or Thai cuisine. It's disorienting living in the global village.
I have a very good friend in London I told about you so expect a FB message.
